Practice

The journey was the point of it all. You hear that a lot.

To me, that simply means we should practice.
Whether it’s Michael Jordan going into an NBA Finals, or the Rolling Stones stepping on stage for a concert, they’re practicing two, five, or even ten times more than they’re performing. Practice makes perfect. We’ve been told that since we were children.
So why do we think we can enter stressful situations and execute them with our ideal behavior without practicing? That’s the question to ask yourself.
I often get asked: Why run ultra-marathons, why do cold plunges, why work out, why do anything that requires discipline?
It’s because we have the chance to practice our ideal behaviors and turn them into automatic responses aligned with our best self—all through practice.

The best part about practice is that by practicing things like emotional states, you’re naturally having fun. Period. By practicing your ideal response to things, you’re living the life you want.
Think about every discipline and stressful opportunity as a way to practice your response.
Let’s imagine you’re in a stressful travel situation. Practice staying calm, trusting the universe, letting go of control, and surrendering to the situation.
That situation will be fun, and you’re building the muscle and skill of practice. It’s the best use of time. I cannot think of a better use of time.
Dr. Joe Dispenza has people practicing getting into an ideal emotional state during meditation, even when they’re feeling uncomfortable—stress.
Once you get good at it, you’re sitting there laughing, crying tears of joy, or feeling ecstatic and happy—meaning you’re having fun and practicing. You’re getting better for the future.
The compounding interest of that will take you anywhere you need to go in life.
Please share with me what you’re looking to practice and how you’re practicing it.
